Archies at barranca (coming soon) will be an architecturally designed venue for up to 150 people that will accommodate everything from corporate functions, equine therapy workshops and weddings.
Named after Archie (Cedars Archibold), who in 1987 was the first purebred Shire to be born in Australia since the early 1900s. A media personality from the start – television news heralded his birth at Cedars Shire Horse Stud (now barranca) in Kangaroo Valley as a new beginning for the breed in Australia. Archie then found his way into the Mounted Police Academy in Redfern where he was their drum horse as well as going out on street patrols. The patrols soon came to an end though, as the loveable Archie caused too many traffic jams when pedestrians stopped to pat him as they crossed the road!
Making appearances on many TV programs including Burke’s Backyard, The Great Outdoors, Getaway, Totally Wild, and the Disney Channel’s Horse Tales, Archie did much to raise the profile of the Shire breed in Australia.
At 19 hands Archie was at the time Australia’s tallest horse. He was put on display at the Royal Easter Show for 10 days where he really drummed up a crowd. Archie won more than fifty first place ribbons in his lifetime and he was the first Shire to be led and ridden in classes at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Sadly, Archie passed away in 2014. Archies at barranca will be a tribute to this majestic Shire horse that will live forever in our hearts and all the hearts of everyone he touched during his long, lucky and very blessed life.
