Set on a quiet, one street coastal village on the northern shores of Jervis Bay, winter is the perfect time for family adventures at barranca. 

We know time away is precious, so to help you make the most of your stay, here is our go-to Jervis Bay winter itinerary to inspire your family getaway over three days…

Day 1: Arrival and Family Fun

2pm: Check in and take a moment to explore the spacious and inviting accommodations and beautiful bushland surroundings. Then get yourselves ready for some friendly competition with a family game of ping pong or pickleball in the brand new games pavilion, setting the tone for an exciting stay ahead.

4pm: As the sun begins to set, gather out the back for lawn games and pre-dinner drinks. Whether you’re playing a game of cornhole or simply soaking in the serene surroundings, this is the perfect opportunity to unwind and connect with your family.

6pm: For dinner, choose between preparing a delicious meal in the fully equipped, spacious kitchen while enjoying a glass or two of wine, or opting for catering services (we’re here to assist!).

7pm: After dinner, gather around the firepit for an evening of stargazing and marshmallow roasting. 

8pm: Once the kids are tucked in bed, treat yourself to a relaxing soak in the bathtub with Lief bath products and a warm cup of T2 tea, indulging in some well-deserved self-care.

Day 2: Outdoor Adventures  

7am: Wake up to the delightful sight of kangaroos grazing on the grass and the melodious sounds of birdsong. Kickstart your day with a Nespresso coffee on the balcony, then cook up a barbecue breakfast on the Beefeater BBQ, relishing the fresh air and scenic views of the surrounding landscape.

9am: After breakfast, take a bike ride (bikes are provided) along the paved paths of Myola Road, offering glimpses of water views and lush greenery. Stop by at Bicentennial Park and Callala Bay, or continue on to Honeymoon Bay Boat Ramp. If you want to brave an ocean swim, take a dip in the crystal-clear waters at Honeymoon Bay. This absolutely picturesque location makes it a haven for nature enthusiasts, and a top spot for a family selfie.

12pm: After your morning bike ride, you can’t go past a classic beachside lunch of fish and chips from the Hungry Seagull. For those with younger kids, there’s a playground right across the road so pack a picnic rug and enjoy your lunch in the park.

3pm: For an afternoon adventure, take a short drive to the historic Point Perpendicular Lighthouse. The lookout is around 90 metres above sea level, making it perfect for spotting migrating whales during the cooler months as they migrate north.You might also catch a glimpse of seals, white-bellied sea eagles and pelagic fish as they hunt in the seas below.

6pm: As evening settles in, venture into Callala Bay for dinner at Calabrisella Woodfired Pizzeria, or opt for takeaway to savour at home, paired with the complimentary bottle of wine from Supercalla in the comfort of your holiday home. 

7pm: Unwind from the busy day by the indoor fireplace, with a family movie or a good book curled up on the lounge.  

Day 3: Coastal Excursions and Relaxation

6am: Rise early for a tranquil walk or run along Myola Beach, followed by an invigorating morning swim in the ocean.

10am: Embark on a short ferry ride to Huskisson, where Captain Dave awaits to entertain you during the journey. The weekend service commences 10am at Myola and is an easy ten minute voyage, departing regularly from Myola to Huskisson. The vessel has a bow door that drops down to allow easy access for bikes, prams, wheelchairs and disabled passengers.

11am: Once you arrive, enjoy a leisurely walk to the heart of Huskisson. Indulge in pub lunch with 180 degree water views at the Huskisson Hotel, affectionately known as Husky Pub, or opt for a cafe lunch and delicious cup of coffee at 5 Little Pigs. If you have younger children, The Husky Bakery & Cafe is the perfect place, with a playground, great food and spacious covered outdoors seating area.

1pm: For a truly unforgettable experience, spend the afternoon on a dolphin or whale watching tour. It is a fantastic way to experience the local wildlife along pristine white sandy beaches, towering cliffs and clear turquoise water. Jervis Bay Dolphin Cruises operate at 10.30am or 1pm and run for 90 minutes. It is best to book tickets online and secure your seats in advance. 

3pm: Make your way back to barranca, Jervis Bay, to enjoy an afternoon of family soccer or basketball before a final cook-up and relaxing evening of board games.
