A congregation of native birds visits our property daily, flying high above the open paddocks and the rainforest trees. You may be lucky enough to spot the two wedge-tailed eagles that live in the nearby mountains, often seen circling Barranca in the afternoon looking for their supper. You will find binoculars on your coffee table.
Follow the marked trails and enjoy an incredible bushwalking experience through Barranca’s pristine bushland and breathtaking escarpment. From gentle walks to more challenging treks of varying grades, our kilometres of safe walking tracks are perfect for every fitness level. Check with our caretakers about saying hello to our Shire horses along the way. You’ll find walking maps in your villa.
Nestled in the bushland environment with open paddocks and dense rainforest, you’ll spot an abundance of wildlife species including echidnas, wallabies, wombats, kangaroos, kookaburras and many varieties of birdlife including lyrebirds. You might even be lucky enough to see one of our most elusive native animals, the platypus!
Invigorate yourself with some adventurous wild swimming in the pristine running creek on our property, a 15 minute walk from your villa, where you can relax in the natural rock pools. Don’t forget to look up at the towering river gums with their enormous staghorns. The uphill walk home is an energetic exercise and our caretaker is happy to drive you down or collect you (no private vehicles).
Nearby you’ll discover the natural wonderland of Flat Rock Waterhole and Falls at Budderoo National Park, where you’ll find a deeper pool for swimming and a smaller rock pool for kids to explore. Below the historic Hampden Bridge in Kangaroo Valley there’s a gorgeous swimming spot with a 70m pool, a swing rope and a sturdy sandbank where you can set up for the afternoon.
The Jervis Bay area is home to the Eastern Grey kangaroo and every afternoon at Marlu House the local ‘roos come for a visit. It’s your chance to get up close, take photos and watch them in their natural habitat. They’re friendly and gentle but we do advise you to give them space to feed and hop around.
The famous Husky Ferry operates a regular weekend and school holiday service from Myola along Currambene Creek to the bustling resort township of Huskisson. Simply step aboard and enjoy a leisurely voyage, avoiding the driving and parking hassles. A bow door allows for easy access for bikes, prams and wheelchairs.
