Mulled Wine Recipe

Warm Up With Mulled Wine

Mulled wine is a wonderful choice for warming up on a cold winter night.  Its soothing warmth and spicy aroma make it a comforting treat during the colder months.

Here’s a simple recipe to make your own.

Ingredients:
– 1 bottle of red wine (750 ml)
– 1 orange, sliced
– 8 whole cloves
– 2 cinnamon sticks
– 2 star anise
– 1/4 cup honey or sugar (adjust to taste)
– Optional: 1/4 cup brandy or rum
– Optional garnish: orange slices, cinnamon sticks, star anise

Instructions:
1. Pour the red wine into a large saucepan or pot over low to medium heat.
2. Add the sliced orange, whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, and star anise to the pot.
3. Stir in the honey or sugar, and continue to heat the mixture until it’s warm, but not boiling. Be careful not to overheat to preserve the alcohol content.
4. Once warmed through and fragrant, remove the pot from the heat. If using, stir in the brandy or rum.
5. Strain the mulled wine mixture to remove the spices and orange slices.
6. Serve the mulled wine hot in mugs or heatproof glasses.
7. Optionally, garnish each serving with a slice of orange, a cinnamon stick, or a star anise for a decorative touch.

Enjoy your cosy winter treat!
